Student Government is spreading some holiday cheer in December by encouraging staff and students to dress up on Fridays. Get into the spirit and mark the following days on your calendar: Friday, Dec. 4 — Winter Wonderland — wear stocking hats, scarves or boots; Friday, Dec. 11 — Santa’ Workshop — wear Santa hats, elf ears, reindeer antlers or t-shirts with pictures of Santa, elves, reindeer or other holiday graphics; Friday, Dec. 18 — Ugly Sweater Day; Tuesday, Dec. 22 — Red and Green Day — no hats, but everything else can be red and green.

Thanks to Mrs. Ottenbacher for organizing the Geography Awareness Week activities. We had fun with the trivia and puzzles.
Congratulations to Miss Bossman, who was inducted into the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame at this year’s state “AA” tournament.
Congratulations to Miss Schutt, who received the National Federation of Officials Association Active Officials Award for her years of service as a volleyball coach and official.

from Miss Howardson’s advisory:
For a December caring project our advisory is considering “Cell Phones for Soldiers.” Old cell phones are donated to a recycling center in Michigan and the proceeds are used to purchase prepaid calling cards for American troops. These phone cards allow soldiers to stay better connected with family members back home. Depending on the response and number of cell phones received, we may need to collect some money to ship them to the recycling plant. We are excited about this project and would like to hear your thoughts.

The WMS Student Government’s annual food drive began on Nov. 4th . Last year, WMS students, parents, and staff donated over 1100 items. So far this year, the total is 460. We’re well on the way to beating last year and reaching our goal of 1500. However, we’ll have to work hard to beat the highest documented total of 3600 from ‘06-’07.
All of the collected food will be donated to the Salvation Army to helps families in need in the Watertown area. They are happy to take any non-perishable food item, but they also have some specific needs: cereal, canned meats, canned soups, Hamburger Helper, boxed instant potatoes, Ramen noodles, and canned sauces.
Thank you to all students, parents, and staff for your support. The food drive continues through Nov. 13. Let’s keep the total growing!
Is your advisory ready to leave a comment? Here are some thoughts and questions for comment:
What fun, motivating things is your advisory doing to increase the donations to the food drive?
Caring projects are coming up in advisory in December. Does your advisory have any great ideas for yourselves? for your team? for the whole school? Check out Mrs. Zebroski’s post about one activity her advisory did.

On Friday, Oct. 23, more than 400 students and staff wore red to kick off Red Ribbon Week. On Monday morning, student government, Peer Helpers and the Fuel Up to Play 60 group provided a healthy snack for all those who participated in the Friday event.
Friday night, the dance attracted many amazing creatures, better known as middle school students in costume. If you’d like to see who won prizes, check out the new Newspaper Club blog, the WMS Scoop. During the dance, 130 adults attended the parent forum with Officer Stricherz, and 36 more attended today’s “Lunch and Learn.”
Today, hats “put a cap on drugs” and sunglasses “shade them out” all over the building. Dress up days continue on Thursday and Friday.
Thanks to all those who’ve participated in these events and to those who’ve helped sponsor them.
